A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer
A Prisoner of Birth begins with a marriage proposal and celebration. It rapidly devolves into a man’s quest for justice against a class system that tries to keep him firmly in place.
If Danny Cartwright had proposed to Beth Wilson the day before or the day after, he would not have been arrested and charged with the murder of his best friend. But when the four prosecution witneses are a barrister, a popular actor, an aristocrat and the youngest partner in an establisehd firm’s history, who is going to believe his side of the story?
Danny is sentenced to twenty-two years and sent to Belmarsh prison, the highest security prison in the land, from where no inmate has ever escaped.
However, Spencer Craig, Lawrence Davenport, Gerald Payne and Toby Mortimer all underestimate Danny’s determination to seek revenge and Beth’s relentless quest to pursue justice whihc ends up with all four fighting for their lives.
In this fantastically written tale, we see the underside of life in Britain. It’s filled with people going about their daily lives along with those who seek to scramble to the top over the bodies of those they deem of no consequence, but one of those common people takes his opportunities where they arise, show his true mettle and turn the tables on those who think themselves above the law and above common decency.
Much like Relacore reviews, Danny Cartwright takes his experiences in West Ham and prison and uses them to mold himself into a tool for exacting revenge on those four people who not only killed his best friend, but stole Danny’s life with his fiancee and their child away from him.
You’ll be amazed at the transformation in Danny, how his mind works and how he triumphs over these seemingly unbeatable foes.
This is a good read for a weekend retreat.
