Lullaby and Goodnight by Wendy Corsi Staub

Lullaby and Goodnight book coverThis thriller was published in 2005 by Pinnacle Books. Wendy Corsi Staub has published over eighty books.

Lullaby and Goodnight is set in New York City where heroine, Peyton Somerset, is taken through the nearly nine months of pregnancy being unknowingly stalked by someone who is out to take her baby and kill her.  The plot is skillfully woven and we’re let until almost the very end to figure out who the villain really is.

Peyton has made the decision to get pregnant by artificial insemination and raise her child without the benefit of a father. She’s had two disastrous engagements that both ended in heartbreak for her and she’s decided that she’s just no good at picking out forever-minded men. She wants to have it all, though. Family, career and independence. And she’s not getting any younger, either. She’s nearly forty and her biological clock chiming a loud alarm.

It’s this decision that has brought her to the attention of the killer. Someone who is so against single motherhood that they have taken on a crusade to take the babies born of such amoral women and give them to women who are unable to conceive, but who are in stable marriages where a baby will be cherished and loved by two parents like a child should be.

This is a gripping novel that will keep you turning the pages into the early hours of the morning.
