mountain topMountain Top by Robert Whitlow was not exactly what I expected. Sort of like going into a light fixture store to find a light bulb, Mountain Top gives you much more than just the basics you expect from a good novel. It also has a lesson in Christian virtues in it.

Sam Miller is totally in tune with God. He even calls Him Papa. He is so in tune that the Lord speaks to him in dreams and Sam takes those dreams to heart. He tells people about them to enable them to see the error of their ways and return to God’s fold. He’s seen some things about people that are now getting him in trouble with the law.

Mike Andrews used to be a lawyer, but one day the Lord spoke to him and Mike gave up his law practice and enrolled in Seminary School. Now he’s the pastor at Little Creek Church. He’s at the Church preparing to visit some newcomers when his secretary ells him he has a call from Muriel Miller. He doesn’t know the Millers as their paths have never crossed, but he responds to her plea to visit her husband in jail.

Mike doesn’t know what to expect when he finds Sam in jail, but it certainly isn’t what he’s confronted with! Despite his telling Sam that he no longer practices law, Sam insists that Papa will tell Mike that he must defend Sam if Mike will only listen.

It takes him awhile and Sam’s continued insistence that Papa has shown the way before Mike accedes and begins the defense of Sam’s criminal charge. When his research uncovers the fact that the charges against Sam are contrived by people who are trying to get Sam discredited because they fear he knows more than he does about the shady goings on over some real estate, they turn their tactics against both Mike and Sam and a true test of Mike’s devotion to God begins.

Well written, compelling and uplifting, Mountain Top will reveal a more approachable God to you.
