With a name like a character in a murder mystery, Phillip Margolin writes of intrique in the city of Portland between to opposing law offices.
Corporate law is presented in anything but dry fashion in The Associate. The hard-working Daniel Ames is caught up in a trial between a large drug company accused of producing a drug that causes birth defects in children and a charismatic lawyer representing clients purportedly affected by the drug. He must discover the truth behind the allegations and in the process he finds big trouble for himself as well as love.
Daniel is befriended by Kate Ross, an ex-technocop turned lawyer who works in the same firm as Daniel. She bails him out of a murder charge, saves his life when an unknown assassin tries to kill him and then gets her life saved by Daniel when they finally uncover who is behind the murders of several people.
I was fortunate to find this entertaining book on sale at Sam’s Club. It’s published by Harper Collins Publications and originally came out in 2002.
