My first book by Samantha Saxon who writes hot romance set in England during the Napoleonic wars. The Lady Lies is about a half-French half-English Lady-turned-double-agent who is purported to be the mistress of Napoleon but who is actually a virgin seductress who uses her womanly wiles to extract secrets from the enemy.
She falls in love with the handsome Earl of Wessex when she saves his life from the French after the battle of Alubera. They meet again in London where she has been sent to uncover a deadly French agent who is threatening to reveal England’s battle plans to Napolean – this agent is a member of the ton, a Lord himself and therefore twice as deadly.
Together Celeste and Aidan track down the agent while engaging each other in steamy sex.
While there are a few scenes in the book that are awkward — positions that are unrealistic (for example, with the voluminous skirts of the period combined with the knife pictured on the book cover strapped to the lady’s thigh could not be drawn swiftly under any circumstance), the historical events and dress of the characters is very accurate. The sex scenes are stimulating with out being disgusting even when it’s the villain who’s engaged in the act.
Ms. Saxon has written two other Lady books; The Lady Killer and The Lady’s Code which were released by the Berkely Publishing Group in 2005 and 2006.
