Wild Justice by Phillip Margolin

When my friend asked me if I’d ever read this book, I responded “no”, however as I got into it, I realized that I actually HAD read it before. Only it must have been another version of it since this one seems to have slight changes to the remembered plot and characters.

The main ones are the same — Amanda Jaffe, Dr. Vincent Cardoni, Mike Green and Dr. Toni Fiori are all there, but Amanda’s father I seemed to remember was dead in the original — and Amanda had newly  taken over his practice, but I could be wrong  (and probably am) — after all, I’m relying on memory which in my case is not so good any more.

At any rate, if this IS a different version of the same book, it has more pizazz to it which makes it an even better read than before. It’s more suspenseful and the writing style keeps casual strollers from losing interest. I’ve come to really enjoy Phillip Margolin’s works and this particular book even with my hazy memory of a similar-yet-different one just reinforce my reasons for liking him as a suspense author.

Amanda has newly joined her father’s practice after graduating from law school despite being offerred positions at other law firms. She’s with him when the call from Dr. Vincent Cardoni comes asking Frank for representation as the police are about to arrest him as a serial killer.

This begins our twisting tale of horrific murders done by torture, our glimpse into the mind of a serial killer as well as hints at the underground world of drug traffikers and other criminals. We’re left until the very end suspecting first one person, then another as the killer. In the end, justice prevails, but not quite at the hands of the law.
